Thomas “Tom” Paul Schmitt, Esquire, strives to practice law differently from many other lawyers and law firms he had worked for in the past. He has even walked away from several lawyers/law firms in the past due to unethical practices, something which Tom considers to be reprehensible. Mr. Schmitt prides himself on his unassailable ethics and professionalism. Tom is proud to now practice law with his friend of more than 30 years, Patton Youngblood, who Mr. Schmitt has personally observed as one of most, if not the most, ethical, professional, and accomplished attorneys he has ever known. Like Patton, Tom’s primary focus is on “the client”, not just on the law firm, and because of this, he gives his clients the personal service they deserve.

Mr. Schmitt is a native Floridian who was born in Miami and has lived in Florida for his entire life. He was raised in Palm Beach County and attended all schools in the Sunshine State. In 1985, Mr. Schmitt attended Exeter College, Oxford University on an ESU/Rhodes Scholarship. Mr. Schmitt graduated from Stetson Law School in 1989.

Mr. Schmitt is a member in good standing of The Florida Bar, the American Bar Association, the Florida Justice Association (Eagle Member for many years), and the Central Florida Trial Lawyers’ Association. He was formerly a member of the Martin County Bar Association and the Palm Beach County Bar Association. He has served on both the Judicial Professionalism Committee for the 15th Judicial Circuit, Florida, and the Judicial Relations Committee of the Palm Beach County Bar Association. He is a former Director of the Young Lawyer’s Division of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers. He has been admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, and all Courts of the State of Florida.

Mr. Schmitt’s career has been dedicated to assisting the injured, and he has practiced exclusively as an “Expert Plaintiff’s Personal Injury Trial Specialist Attorney” handling, among many other types of cases, automobile, motorcycle, trucking, brain injury, slip/trip and fall, and wrongful death cases. His reputation for always being prepared, always having an intimate knowledge of the law, his clients, and his clients’ cases is well known. He is a formidable opponent inside the courtroom. Mr. Schmitt has obtained several million-dollar and multi-million-dollar jury awards and settlements throughout Florida. His results include a jury verdict in a motorcycle vs. trucking/tractor-trailer wrongful death case in which a jury awarded $15.2 Million Dollars for his client, the second-largest motorcycle jury verdict in the State of Florida, ever!

Formerly, Mr. Schmitt practiced law on the Treasure Coast for nearly a decade, and he is honored to head the Treasure Coast office of the firm in Port St. Lucie. Mr. Schmitt is proud to once again represent injured clients on the Treasure Coast. He is especially proud of his team of lawyers and paralegals, and he has regularly expressed his appreciation for having been blessed with such an honest, compassionate, experienced, loyal, and hard-working staff. Mr. Schmitt believes that the consistent, superior results that he achieves for his clients are due in large part to the cooperation of all members of the firm.

Tom is an accomplished pianist, vocalist, sketch artist, and ballroom dancer. For most of his life, he has been an avid boater and has been the proud owner of many speed boats, small fishing boats, large sport fishing boats, and sport yachts over his lifetime. Mr. Schmitt lives in South Florida with his loving wife Lekky and their three children. Tom lists his priorities as God, Family, Country, and the Clients of the firm.
